FTC Robotics

          In First Tech Challenge robotics, students design and build a robot to compete against other schools in specific technical challenges. After a successful rookie season last year, YC is looking to take their FTC robotics team to the next level with features like autonomous position tracking, intelligent gathering and depositing of objectives, and smoother acceleration curves. 
          This year we came back determined to not let Covid keep us down, and spent many a a day masked up in the metal shop fabricating a completely custom robot. This paid off for us  in the spring, as we topped our league and took 8th place at the state level. CNC Machining

           In addition to Routers, Lasers, Vinyl Cutters and 3D Printers, YCHS operates a machine shop with extensive capabilities. This includes both CNC and manual machining, with both lathe turning and 3-axis milling machines, as well as plasma cutting. We've adopted the Titans of CNC Academy curriculum, and through this series of projects students learn both the ins and outs of programming a CNC machine as well as the business side of things - taking jobs from local clients, researching the work required and writing a formal quote for the customer before beginning work.

Drone Team

     Over the course of the last five years, students at YCHS have designed, constructed and tested multiple aircraft drone system, working towards the goal of providing flexible, cutting edge data to local farmers. 
     This year, I'm happy to report that we were able to deliver on our initial promise: a GPS based product spray map for our farmers equipment based upon drone photography.
     As we begin to merge this project into the ag program in the coming months, we look forward to giving our students the tools to collaborate with career professionals as they learn all about what it means to run an agricultural business in the 21st century.
